...more thanI listened to this book on sound and it couldn't hold my attention. Fortunately, neither grapheme was irritating or obnoxious only the story just seemed to keep and on going nowhere. Really though, I recall the trouble lies in the fact that I've read likewise many historical romances over the years and the plot or the characters have to be exceptionally dissimilar to stand out for me. This one just wasn't.

Victoria Alexander sweetly and charmingly entertains with the typical fairytale, love story. Information technology's a tale that I can take or leave. I'g neither here nor there on the subject of his book. After all, information technology'due south a fairytale, and a fairytale is a fairytale, is a fairytale, correct? Nosotros all know how they finish by at present, I think. It was light and pleasant plenty reading for a night. Just don't look too much. Definitely a two-to-three.

After having her centre broken, Pamela decides that she wants to forgo societal conventions and go a 'worldly woman' instead. Prince Alexei'southward looks and reputation seem particularly suited for her introduction to such a life and she seduces him. Since she never let him meet her face—and she never revealed her name—Alexei is at a disadvantage. Shakespeare would exist proud of the one-act that follows. Pamela and Alexei are each in a bit of difficulty that a pretend-engagement would conveniently solve—and that'southward just the beginning of the fun. Alexei's traitorous cousin Valentina has joined the household and he orders his friend Dimitri to keep an middle on her—solar day and night—hmmm. E'er-poised Aunt Millicent becomes a blathering mess at the mere thought of encountering Winchester, the man she left at the chantry years before. Dearest is also in the air for Clarissa and Roman—the only couple not entangled in some chaos of their ain making.
I loved this book!!! Conceivable characters, witty dialogue, lots of sense of humour—and for the well-nigh part, a conceivable storyline (Alexei'south belief that he had zip to offer was a difficult sell). Although she was a minor character, I take to say that I particularly liked Valentina. Many thanks to my friend Melissa for recommending this writer!

This 10th book brings us back to 1820's. Alexei, Prince of Avolonia, was in an earlier volume. He is a bit of rake and very big-headed. They really are quite a pair! Such an entertaining tale, much farce!
I dearest a lively historical with all the pomp and circumstance! Really enjoyable read!
A fun series.
When Miss Pamela Effington wanted adventure and romance for a dark she never thought she would come across Prince Alexei of Avalonia once again. I really liked Pamela as the spunky, high-spirited Effington daughter. She was a delight and did not succumb to the Prince's more than big-headed style. I really liked Alexei more than in previous books than I did in this i, he did not fit the romanticized hero enough for me.

I wasn't certain if I should give this volume a two stars or three stars rating. In the finish I went for three because I realized I couldn't actually say I completely disliked it; I just wasn't much into it either.

I wasn't sure if I should give this volume a two stars or 3 stars rating. In the end I went for 3 because I realized I couldn't really say I completely disliked it; I just wasn't much into it either.
At showtime I thought the problem might exist that I'd read also many historical romances and I was just growing tired of them, but on further consideration I've concluded that that isn't the issue here. I still thoroughly relish a skilful historical romance, fifty-fifty if you do find the typical cliches here and there. No, the problem here is that you lot discover all of the worst cliches - or at least most of them - in the book. You have the lightheaded unrealistic plot (two people assemble for a shag one night and become hopelessly tormented by the retention of it for years to come up because it was just and then darn skillful); you have the oh-so-arrogant and, of grade, manwhore of a hero, who even though has shagged half the women in Europe, he all the same remembers that one dark with the heroine; You lot have the typical 'I tin can't ally you for x stupid reason' situation going on, which I honestly never understood. The hero says he can't marry her because he has goose egg to offer and he is a poor tormented soul full of regrets. Pff! Beginning of all, her begetter had bundled for him to be able to withdraw all his funds, so he had quite a lot to offer, not to mention his name, social status and protection. And second of all, what regrets? Aye, okay, he loses his country and all that, only he never seems particularly tormented past it. I just couldn't purchase it.
And, as a bonus, that whole affair with... Penwick was information technology? Completely ridiculous!
Conclusion: The story might not be that bad, it just contained a lot of the things I detest in a romance. If you lot're into them, so by all ways give it a effort! The writing wasn't at all bad and there were bits of it I enjoyed plenty.

They both know that wedlock is impossible due to their stations, withal, Alexei is upset that she refuses to have off her mask or tell him her proper noun.
Miss Pamela Effington fled London six years ago rather than face up scandal, thanks to George Fenton, son of Viscount Penwick, bragging to his buddies. She lives and travels with Aunt Millicent, who uses her widowhood and vast wealth to live every bit she pleases. Information technology seems that Aunt Millicent is known globe wide past all who matter. Pamela knows it is not safe to succumb to Alexei, yet she now has takes with her a glorious memory to cherish forever. Imagine Pamela's surprise when she finds Alexei and his staff occupying the London townhouse that she has recently inherited.
Aunt Millicent suggests that Pamela and Alexei pretend to exist engaged. This would help ease Pamela dorsum into Order'southward good graces. After all, no ane could think badly of her if a PRINCE wishes to midweek her. When she breaks the engagement later, every eligible man will beg for her paw in spousal relationship. However, Alexei finds himself drawn to Pamela without knowing why and Pamela is badly keeping her secrets.
***** The author includes a character named Valentina. She is Alexei's traitorous cousin. She has spent her life trying to impale Alexei, for Avalonia's own good of course. Valentina resides in the townhouse as well, challenge to take inverse. As much every bit I really wanted to hate Valentina, I merely could not! The writer did such a fantastic job on this graphic symbol that she really steals the testify ofttimes. I dearly hope that Valentina gets her own story. The very idea is tantalizing!
Author Victoria Alexander has done an outstanding job in this tale. The heroine is someone that today's ladies can easily wait up to. For best results, read this novel just before going to bed. Guaranteed to requite yous some memorable dreams. I tell that from experience. *****

...moreIt'southward ironic, I call back, that as much every bit I disliked Alexei in the first book, my ii favorite books of the series would be the ones in which he plays the largest office. He'south quite reformed in this story, having undergone quite a flake of upheaval with his land and he shows no less arrogance, but a bit more than maturity. I found information technology a little ridiculous though that he had absolutely no idea who Pamela was, peculiarly since the night was so special. Though I'm sure it didn't end him from having sexual practice with many other woman afterwards - but it sure stopped Pamela. At that place's that double standard. Nonetheless, their relationship was a fun one. It wasn't campy or cheesy nor was it overly angsty and dramatic. Information technology had a touch of "fate' and "soul mates" happening, so there was definitely insta-dear, just neither actually admit information technology as that correct away, so it was forgivable. The nobility thing there at the end was a bit forced and ridiculous, but not overly drawn out. This volume seemed to observe a very overnice balance to me. And one of the first in this series in which I didn't get frustrated with the characters. I kinda liked Valentina, though I think she served more as comic relief than a night grapheme. I'k non certain in reality anyone would have forgiven her.
And shouldn't this book be number nine? This seems to exist chronologically out of social club.

I didn't realize this was part of a serial until I looked it upwards on the author'southward website. It was a quick read and I enjoyed it, simply I thought the reunion of the two main characters could accept happend a lot sooner in the story. Plus, every time the male person master grapheme was close to figuring out that the female person master character was the woman he met briefly four years ago, he would 2d approximate himself and this only dragged the story even more.I am interested in reading the previous books in this series and hopefully the action will move a little faster.
